Attracted by the prospect of Bassist David's newly finished music studio in his home, including computers, pianos and a drum kit, "Vanguard" decided upon a move from the school music hall to the music studio. Dom left the band due to the fact that he didn't like any music that the band liked and vice versa. The three remaining members decided that a drum-machine was the temporary solution, until a drummer with first-class ability is found. Therefore, a threesome was formed in the Autumn of 2001. With the new change of personel came a new name, "Sonora" was briefly tried before "Opaque" and "Avernus", then finally "Curio". The new year yielded new and improved equipment, including digital recording equipment, new amps and new guitars. It also provided the band's first gig, a charity show performance of Queen's 'Under Pressure' featuring Chris Ward (The Cost of Living) on drums and Ben Thomas on vocals. Although no drummer was attained that year, the band enjoyed guest performances from Gregor 'Spinod' Brown, and the golfing legend, James 'Lairy' Court.
