As part of the Brentwood School Charity Committee's big fundraiser, a non copyright approved version of the hit programme that launched the recently disgraced Matthew Kelly's career, Stars in Their Eyes, was performed. Being the type of poor souls we are, the three members of Curio decided to perform. The song they chose was "Under Pressure", a number one hit for Queen featuring David Bowie. Being Curio we decided to include two people outside of the band for this perfomance; drummer Chris Ward (The Cost of Living) and talentless wonder Ben Thomas. After numerous rehearsals, we were confident of doing it well and of even possibly winning the Stars in Their Eyes show. Shortly before the show was going to begin we found out that we had the pleasure of opening the show. It is often extremely hard to win from the start. Nevertheless, at 7:30pm we took to the stage and played the first 2 minutes of the song impeccably, but then the aforementioned Ben Thomas (David Bowie) sung a line too early and put us all off. Chaos ensued for 3 seconds as we all struggled to work out what was going on. We regained our composure and finished the song strongly, but the embarrassment and thought of that mistake plagued our minds for hours afterwards. We did not win. But we believe we were close. We lost to Mr Suck-up-to-all-the-teachers and Miss Part-of-the-school-drama-scene-for-the-last-7-years, who did a dull, mic-less Robbie and Nicole impersonation. And yes, we are bitter.
